Where we want to go

We want to visit: Bruton, Somerset

As we continue the series on locations we’d like to visit, it is time to dig a little deeper into a local town. The town is a relatively new find, but is attracting a large London crowd at weekends and there’s a good reason for the interest. The place in question is Bruton, in Somerset, United Kingdom.

Bruton is located between Yeovil and Frome and is a small farming town of over 3,000 residents. They have 3 public schools and its history dates back to well before the 14th century with its church of St Mary and ancient streets of stone and stucco houses. However, the recent new wave of people visiting is largely due to the opening of art gallery Hauser & Wirth, bringing in people interested in modern art from all over the world.

We want to stay at ‘At the Chapel’:

As such as small town, there are few choices for hotels, but luckily there is a great one in At the Chapel. This hotel also serves as an all-day restaurant with a bar also open all day serving coffee, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Serving up local west country food as well. The hotel consists of 8 contemporary rooms, situated above the restaurants, and each room is uniquely designed.

We want to eat and drink at Matt’s Kitchen and Beanshot coffee

Other options to At the Chapel include Matt’s kitchen for food, which is a very unique place we’d like to try out. They serve a single dish of the day and allow you to bring your own alcohol for a small corkage fee. Matt’s kitchen is only open for supper on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s and you can hire it for private functions on Saturdays.

For our usual coffee, Bruton has a place called Beanshot. This little place is an artisanal roasters and coffee shop. Where we’ll be able to get our usual fix of caffeine so we can get our daily fix and also buy home some blends and roasts which we would not find elsewhere.

We want to explore Bruton:

There is plenty more to see in this small village/town such as long walks, and there is even a Scandinavian shop! So we’d like to make sure we get plenty of time to explore this village and escape from the rest of the world for a little while.
