Winter seems to be dragging on, and in the United States at least, the cold snap has been pretty severe this year. Usually, you’ll find people head to California and Florida, but what if you want a destination which is a bit quieter and, perhaps, a little easier on the wallet? One option is Arizona.
Traditionally, one of Europe’s greatest cities for the arts, with an enormous range of fantastic restaurants, nightlife and the wider Tuscany on its doorstep, Florence is a real gem. A beautiful city mixing history, contemporary art and cool unique independent stores. Florence is also home to the bi-annual Pitti Uomo, the men’s fashion event and, for that reason, is why we wan to visit.
Deep in the ‘desert’ of west Texas, you will find the small town of Marfa, increasingly regarded as an arts hub. The late Donald Judd, a famous American artist known for his minimalism, moved to Marfa in 1979 and set up the Chinati Foundation and the whole town draws from his minimalist aesthetic.
There is a certain charm about some of the cities within the southern states and Charleston is one of these, with an incredible history to boot. Expect to find stately looking salons, mansions and townhouses, with the city maintaining its historic charm.
