We select key pieces from the Orlebar Brown Summer SALE!

The bi-annual Orlebar Brown sale is now live and, frankly, we think it’s the best yet. There’s so much content we struggled to nail down a handful of key pieces.

What’s so good about this sale? We know our Orlebar Brown and we’ve seen some unique products which we’ve never seen before. Take a look through and see if you can spot them, but there’s a handful of colours and items almost exclusive to the sale.

In addition, there are a few pieces at fantastic prices. Note the price of the Fulton in Navy or OB-V in Coral for only £19.

Here are our choices. First up, Chris, one co-founder of Short Motivation, has selected 7 items from the UK sale, available to ship through Europe (look below for Alex’s choices from the US sale).

Bulldog in Mazanine

The classic Orlebar Brown swim short in a classic colour. You simply cannot go wrong with this short. With a 6″ inseam, the Bulldog can be used as a daily short around town, by the pool or for a drink at the bar. Mix this up with a colourful OB-T or OB-V to make an impression.

This Mazanine colour is a blue which OB brings back (in some variation) nearly every season, for a good reason. It’s popular.

Whiteley Waffle in Navy/White

One of our favourite Orlebar Brown leisure sweats. This is made from a cotton waffle with elasticated cuffs. It’s a classic fit, but we’d recommend sticking to your regular size as waffle fabric has a tendency to shrink slightly in the wash.

Perfect post-gym leisure top of for something stylish to wear on a weekend with a pair of jeans.

Alusky in Navy Pique

We’ve not seen this leisure short for a while (it was discontinued by Orlebar Brown) but we’re happy to see it return in the sale and we’d serious suggest you give this short some consideration.

It’s made out of a heavyweight pique cotton with rubber buttons and a drawstring waist. You could use this for a workout at the gym, but we’d recommend this either as post-gym leisure short or even a Sunday morning “around the house” easy morning short.

OB-V in Coral

Alex has also chosen an OB-T, but this has to be included from the UK sale. Why? You cannot go wrong with a classic OB-V t-shirt and this colour is super-fresh. Coral is a very sharp red, with a pink/orange tinge.

An OB-V is ideal for someone with an athletic physique. We’d also advise you consider going a size down if you want something a little more body-hugging!

Bellamy in Moss Green

Look through the Short Motivation social media and you’ll often see the Bellamy short featured in our workouts and it’s the forerunner to the Jack.

We love the Bellamy short as it’s ideal for training, fun on the beach, trip on the boat, day by the pool or similar ventures. It has quick-drying lightweight nylon with a slight stretch. We’re particularly keen on the drawstring waist on this short.

Catalan in Navy

Our goto Orlebar Brown Chino. Made with a midweight cotton twill, these will see you through the week. Unlike the more formal Griffin trouser, the Catalan includes waist belt loops to enable you to wear a belt, which is our preferred choice.

If you go for the navy option, you can layer this with a shirt, OB-T or go for a colourful top as a contrast item.

Sebastian in Navy Melange

This is a tailored fit polo often worn by Adam Brown, founder of Orlebar Brown. It’s been a staple piece within the collection for years and you can quickly see why. It has a slim body and note the detail points such as the rubber buttons on the arms.

This is a navy melange piece which has a slight formal edge, ideal for a working day.

Rake x Orlebar Brown Dayton Towelling shorts

Dayton Towelling Shorts

From the exclusive capsule collection – The Rake x Orlebar Brown, a collaboration between Rake magazine and Orlebar Brown. This short is based on the 17-piece pattern of a men’s suit trouser and is 70% cotton and 30% polyester towelling. The shorts are great paired with a T-shirt and sneakers or if you want something more formal why not pair it with loafers and a shirt?

OB-T in Pomodoro Melange

The OB-T and OB-V are the original and still best-selling T-shirts that Orlebar Brown does, and no wonder. The T-shirts are light and comfortable and sit nicely on the body without being too tight. They work perfectly on their own or as a layer underneath a jacket, or a sweater. The Pomodoro colour is also a great red which is softened by the white in the melange making it perfect with a range of bottoms, whether shorts or trousers.

Navy/White Piping Setter’s

Setter in Navy / White Piping

The Setter’s are one of the classic OB shorts and is slightly shorter than the original Bulldog at 4.5″ inseam. They are based on men’s tailored trousers and come with side fasteners to adjust to the perfect fit.

The Setter with the piping has a classic gym short feel to them but can still be combined as easily with a shirt or t-shirt to look great while on holiday before you jump into the pool or ocean! It is one of our favourite shorts, and we’ve featured them before.

SAMMY – Mazanine Classic Fit Pocket Towelling T-Shirt

Sammy Towelling Shirt

Sammy is the slightly looser fit from the OB classic t-shirts. The t-shirt is a great fit and perfect for those hot days when a closer fit doesn’t feel right.

This version of the Sammy also comes with a twist, a great light blue on blue colour in a new, lighter weight towelling, which again is perfect for summer lounging poolside.

Alden Pistachio Jacket

Orlebar Brown not only do fantastic Swim and Resort wear, they have also expanded to some great outdoor clothing. In terms of jackets the latest iterations of the lightweight outdoor jackets really took it up a notch.

The Alden jacket is made from a matte-finish fabric, woven in Japan and is showerproof, so you’ll look good, even if you get caught out in the rain. It is unlined, comes with side seam pockets and has a panned hood with a drawcord to keep the weather out! Finally, the pistachio colour is really unique and versatile!

Bulldog in Chambray/Cloud

This version of the classic Bulldog short is a more formal version of the swim short.

Officially called a “Pyjama Stripe” we’re not sure that phrase is directed correctly at this style of short. We can see this worn with a classic white Morten linen shirt on an evening out, knowing you can still jump in the pool with these shorts if the situation arises.

Raymond in Denim Cotton Indigo

The Raymond is a lovely indigo colour made from cotton and washed for a slightly worn denim look. It combines a casual grandad collar with a buttoned cuff and is ideal for an informal office setting or just a smart weekend look for day or night.
