MADE is the latest impressive New York hotel

New York is a huge city with a tonne of things to do, see and eat. It is also home to some absolutely fantastic hotels including one of our favourite hotels, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge where we’ve had the privilege of visiting on a couple of occasions since opening earlier this year. But, there a number of other impressive hotels and another has recently caught our attention.

MADE, which opened September 2017 in the NoMad district, is a new hotel venture from hospitality entrepreneur Sam Gelin. The hotel features interiors inspired by nature, which includes bronze light fixtures, hand woven fabrics and hand-carved wood benches.

There are 108 guest rooms with floor to ceiling windows, wood flooring and concrete ceilings. The rooms are available as Standard, Studio, Superior or Deluxe, but rooms continue to display the nature element, including beds featuring mattresses on a wooden platform. All rooms include elevated city views, including the Deluxe rooms, which have views of the Empire State Building. Finally the bathrooms, have stone faucets and again a lot of wood and Japanese tiling.

There is plenty to do right at the hotel, includeing a secluded patio on the second floor, plus a lobby bar offering food and drinks. Meanwhile, there is also Paper, which a coffee shop serving up baked treats and coffees. MADE hotel features Good Behavior, a rooftop bar which will serve tiki-style cocktails and Ferris, a seasonal restaurant which will serve lunch and dinner.

The hotel has been designed with a sense of community, where people can gather, mingle and make casual acquaintances. Gelin adds “I want this space to feel really inclusive,” he says. “It’s when I remove those social barriers that we can have really interesting interactions. You’d be surprised what level of creativity comes out of this space when we don’t limit ourselves to a specific category of individual or specific industry.”

We’re excited to see what MADE is like and may well drop by if we fancy staying outside of our usual go-to area, Brooklyn.
