App Review: MyFitnessPal

Your one-stop app for tracking your calories, fitness and general health.

It’s never been easier to track and count your calories as it is with MyFitnessPal. The world’s most popular health and fitness app was gobbled up by sports brand, Under Armour, for a whopping $475m, which should give you some idea about usefulness.

MyFitnessPal holds a growing database of over six million foods and beverages that are each broken down to show their nutritional values. Armed with this information, you can then see how many calories you’re about to swallow down and make sure you stay on target with your fitness goals.

Deep dive into MyFitnessPal, and you’ll find a whole host of useful tools to chisel out that body you’ve always wanted. You can track your strength or cardio workout routines and discover how many calories you’ve burned throughout. There’s a progress graph that shows how you’re shaping up – or down – that comes with programmable reminders to stay abreast of your targets. And with the most recent update, you can now view blogs direct from MyFitnessPal HQ that give you healthy recipes, workout tips and general fitness advice from trusted experts.

What’s also great about MyFitnessPal is its connectivity with other apps and devices. For example, popular running app, Strava, funnels its information seamlessly into MFP and vice versa. And that Garmin, Apple Watch or Fitbit you’ve become so attached to, also feeds directly into the app so that you don’t have to worry about inputting every run and exercise manually.
